I just backed Ubooly for #android

Very rarely have I seen something on kickstarter that has had me reaching for my wallet.  Ubooly was different. And here’s why:

Ubooly is a bit of a strange name for something that is surprisingly interesting idea.  How many times as a kid, did you wish that your toys would come to life and talk back to you? Well Ubooly kind of does this.  Ubooly is a smart toy for the mobile generation.  It is a plush toy which at its heart is a mobile application which interacts and teaches kids things like foreign languages as well as being a fun toy.

Kickstarter…peddler of dreams?

Being a father and a mobile geek, it immediately struck chords with me, but I was initially skeptical.  I was expecting another set of people talking about things that they were hoping to do.  Selling dreams in a way only Kickstarter can. What greeted me instead was:

1. A fully formed and shippable toy that looked ready to go.
2. A toy that actually looked like something that would continue to grow and get better.
3. Backed by a team of educators ( American for teachers) and play therapists exactly the people I would like to have designing toys for my kid.
4. It gamified learning by giving Ubooly new outfits based on unlockable puzzles.
5. It looked really fun!
6. Most of all, it made technology invisible and just becomes another magical, cuddly toy.

The clincher…. Amazon Payments.

What no credit card entry?? The final step that surprised me was that they had incorporated amazon payments into the deal.  After they had whipped me into a frenzy that I was practically shouting “Take my money” at the computer screen, I realized that  I just needed my amazon details to pay, I was sorted.  Done deal.

Countdown till November

I personally can’t wait to play with it… Sorry I mean let my kid play with the toy when it arrives in November and for those of you looking to join me in backing Ubooly.
